d.c. and fire ems on the scene. >> melanie alnwick is there and she joins us live with all the details. >> reporter: good morning, guys. they just pulled the vehicle out of here and also they just removed a large utility pole. see where that orange cone is. so it appears although we don't know exactly what happened here that that car carcarcareened into a utility po the accident was pretty significant. d.c. fire and ems had to extricate the four people inside of the car basically cutting off that roof and pulling those four patients out, one intern critical condition, one person in serious condition. the two others also transported with serious injuries. it happened about 2:39 in the morning. back over here you can still see a lot of d.c. police here on the scene as well and further behind there you can see that's bladensburg road. bladensburg road now also shut down. i do believe they're going

get this cleaned up relatively quickly. you can see the street sweeper now making probably like the third or fourth pass here trying to get all the glass and debris off the road so cars can safely come through here but definitely a very large response here by d.c. police and you mentioned d.c. fire ems they came here, transported the patients so they are now gone but if i had to guess, i would say probably within the next half hour this road is going to be back reopened to traffic. live in northeast, i'm melanie alnwick, fox5 local news. >> time right now is 4:up there. turning to politics now, the president is in new york this morning ahead of his first general assembly meeting the the united nations. president trump will meet separately today with the leaders of israel and france before his big address to the entire un tomorrow. the ongoing tension between the u.s. and north korea is expected to be a major focus of the president's agenda. >> the u.s. is considering closing its embassy in cuba after nearly two dozen members of the diplomatic staff had health p

caused by that sonic attack. now that word coming from secretary of state rex tillerson who says a decision on shutting down the mission in havana is under evaluation. victims include u.s. diplomats and their families. some suffered permanent hearing loss and concussions. the cuban government has denied involvement. local emergency management crews are in the caribbean islands ready to respond to another devastating storm. the island is still picking up pieces from hurricane irma and now they're bracing for hurricane maria. the storm is supposed to strike puerto rico between tomorrow and thursday. now their focus is going to be on maria. >> usually we're on the back end of the storms for the events. this time we'll be in there middle of it so a little bit different preparations for the safety of the team while we're here, so that we're ready to go once the storm does pass

help. >> the task force is divided up into six different groups of about 80 people onto the three islands. they'll be helping everyone on those islands before and after the storm hits. >> in the keys residents continue dealing with widespread devastation caused by hurricane irma. nearly 25 percent of the homes in the keys were destroyed and 65 percent sustained some type of damage. people returning to their homes and businesses must boil their water and debris can be found everywhere. >> the hardest part is not electricity, you know, and all the debris everywhere. it does smell. there's a lot of garbage. a lot of seaweed comes up and it's rotting. >> turning our focus now to the national football league. the redskins were in los angeles sunday taking on the rams and under two minutes to go, tied at 20 kirk cousins finds ryan grant 11-yard touchdown pass skins up

spicer was wheeled out on a podium after colbert unleashed a string of jabs at the president. the night was filled with criticisms of president trump including alec baldwin slamming him for not getting an emmy nomination for his show "the apprentice." bald man won a emmy for his portrayal of the president at "saturday night live." dave chappelle gave a shout out to d.c. schools. it became a trending hashtag during the awards show. it took off even more after last week tonight's show host john oliver also thanked d.c. public schools. he said, you know, just to get it trending for no reason. d.c.p.s. quickly responded on twitter with approving emojis for chappelle and oliver and then later this adorable picture with the caption, "us right now." and finally we covered the jabs and the shoutouts and now on to the fashion. most

[laughter] >> what does that mean. >> how about 'em. >> all right, guys let's get to the weather forecast. they won. that's not the worst start in the world. >> it's a good thing. >> it's a good thing at great thing. let's get to the weather forecast. take a look at your forecast for the day today. kind of a mix of clouds and maybe even a shower or two. futurecast likes the idea around 8 o'clock this morning maybe even seeing a few. don't think there will be that many but can't rule out an isolated area of drizzle or two. as we roll through the afternoon we'll start to break the clouds up a little bit and get into a little bit of sunshine. all these showers actually are associated with hurricane josé. not going to come anywhere near here the center of it isn't but it will get close enough that our friends off to the east tomorrow, watch this as we get into your day on tuesday, look at all that rain coming i don't and to the eastern shore, that's

we're also tracking a crash in the district in northeast. melanie alnwick was out there earlier this morning. mount olivet road northeast still impacted with the westbound lanes shut down that's as you make your way out between 16th and bladensburg road. big scene there. several injuries involved, one critical. aside from that if you're taking the rails orange line delays five stations impacted from single tracking from late clearing construction work. we'll take a closer look at that as we continue. any questions at erin fox5 d.c. on twitter. >> time is 4:48. let's go to fairfax county where police are investigating the cause of a crash that killed two people and injured a teenager. police say 26-year-old benjamin winger was drivin on beach mill road in great falls around 7:00 saturday night when the car veered off the road and slammed into a tree. winger and a 23-year-old passenger abigail ryan died at the scene. ryan's 15-year-old sister was in the back seat. a witness described the moments after that crash. >> it was

around the tree. an incredible amount of vehicle here's and i just stayed back because i knew there were two people who had -- were deceased and i didn't want to get that close. >> investigators are not saying whether speed or alcohol was a factor in the crash. staying in loudoun county now where sheriff's officers need your help in finding these robbery suspects. police say they held up a high -- held up a high up convenience store in sterling last friday afternoon. the sheriff's office says that the men were armed with guns, stole cash and cigarettes from the store and from customers. now, anyone with information on any of these men is being asked to call the sheriff's office. >> time right now is 4:49. tarps are once again covering the confederate statues of robert e. lee and stonewall jackson in charlottesville, virginia. someone removed the coverings on friday night. this is the third time the tarps have been damaged or removed since the city council voted to cover them. that decision came in the aftermath of last month's deadly rally where protest

north carolina. officials say the boys carriage started tilting out of its normal position p the ride was shut down and workers climbed up to rescue the pair. when the malfunctioning car suddenly snapped and threw one of the workers to the ground. oh, my gosh. the two boys were eventually rescued unharmed. huge relief to their mothers. >> all you can hear is your seven-year-old child screaming saying somebody help us, please help us and they're crying at the top of their lungs, that was the most traumatic experience for me as a mother and where i felt helpless that i couldn't do anything at all. >> the worker who fell only had minor injuries. that's a miracle in and of itself. the ride has since passed a safety inspection and is actually back in use. >> also in the news this morning millions of americans get social security disability benefits but getting approved it's not that easy. there's a growing wait list of americans waiting to be approved for disability benefits.

repeat of today tomorrow with highs of 82 degrees. josé will be passing far offshore yet still close enough that those off to the east, eastern shore is mostly who i'm talking about could be seeing some heavy rain tomorrow afternoon. here in d.c. i think it's just a passing shower. then we turn really nice and sunny and bright. wednesday, thursday, friday, all the way through the weekend, we're talking about lots of sunshine and look at those temperatures. wednesday and thursday, highs in the upper 80's. mid 80's by the weekend for that first week of fall. that's a check of the forecast. over to erin como now for traffic. >> 4:56. skipping the roads getting right to the rails we have some late clearing weekend work impacting the eastern end of the orange line. five stations impacted between new carrollton and minnesota avenue a so let's get right to all those details. as you make your way out keep in mind single tracking trains running every 16 minutes on new carrollton line, landover cheverly deanwood and minnesota avenue. a lot of information right there. if you're trying to get around that and you normally take the eastern end of the orange line you can use
